Yan Diomandé has reportedly scored a “magnificent goal” for Real Madrid against RB Leipzig in a Champions League fixture, as detailed by L’Équipe. This match, identified as the third matchday encounter between the two clubs, is slated for 21 October 2026, according to live coverage details from Eurosport.
The report from L’Équipe highlights that Real Madrid “kept pace” in the Champions League campaign against Leipzig, with goals attributed to both Kylian Mbappé and Diomandé. This early reporting of a goal ahead of a scheduled 2026 fixture presents an unusual development for football enthusiasts.
Demichelis’s Pre-Match Assessment of Diomandé
Ahead of this anticipated third Champions League matchday fixture against Real Madrid, RB Leipzig coach Martín Demichelis provided his insights on various aspects, including Yan Diomandé. Speaking to the media, Demichelis acknowledged Diomandé’s quality, stating that Real Madrid’s decision to sign him was based on his impressive performances during his time at Leipzig.
Demichelis admitted he had not extensively trained Diomandé, having only had a brief period with him after the World Cup when the player trained separately. His knowledge of Diomandé largely came from observing him on television. The coach underscored Diomandé’s profile, noting that modern football seeks wingers “capable of making a difference,” a category Diomandé fits into. Demichelis emphasised that Diomandé’s future trajectory would depend on his own efforts.
Real Madrid’s Attacking Options
During his press conference, Demichelis also discussed Real Madrid’s formidable attacking line-up, anticipating the presence of Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr. He identified Diomandé as a potential option on the right wing, alongside Arda or Endrick, stressing that regardless of the specific players, Real Madrid would present a “dangerous attack.”
Demichelis’s comments, reported by OneFootball, also touched upon Leipzig’s need to display courage and personality against an exceptional Real Madrid squad, especially after a significant 6-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, contrasted with a 1-0 victory against PSV Eindhoven.
