Glentoran secured a vital Irish Premiership win against Carrick Rangers at The Oval, marking their second consecutive victory in the league. Forward Jordan Jenkins was instrumental, scoring a double to seal the points for the East Belfast side.
The victory extends a positive run for Glentoran, who came into the match following a crucial away win, as reported by BBC Sport.
Glentoran’s Winning Streak Continues
The triumph over Carrick Rangers follows Glentoran’s hard-fought 2-1 away victory against Cliftonville last weekend. In that match, Jordan Jenkins again proved decisive, netting an 83rd-minute winner which Glentoran then defended with ten men.
Glentoran defender Daniel Larmour highlighted the significance of the Cliftonville result, noting that the team had to ‘dig in away from home under difficult circumstances’ and successfully held on for the win. This victory, he stated, provided a much-needed ‘lift’ for the squad ahead of their return to The Oval, according to Glentoran FC.
Pre-Match Expectations and Challenges
Ahead of the Carrick Rangers fixture, Larmour had expressed the team’s ambition to reward their home support at The Oval. ‘The fans come out and support us every week, and the players really appreciate it,’ he commented, hoping to ‘give them something to shout about this week’.
Despite Carrick Rangers being Larmour’s first senior club, he anticipated a challenging encounter. He described Carrick as ‘a good side with a lot of experience in this league’ and recalled ‘tough games against them last year’, emphasising that Glentoran would need to ‘be on it on Saturday and take our chances when they come because they’re tough to break down’. The mood within the Glentoran camp was reportedly positive following their previous win, with Larmour crediting Tim McCann and Paddy McCourt for helping players stay focused. The match was proudly supported by Match Partner Haldane Fisher.
