Man's Body Found in Dublin Recycling Plant as Norfolk Site

An investigation is underway in Dublin after the body of a man was discovered at a waste recycling facility in Clondalkin, west Dublin, with Gardaí treating the death as suspicious. This incident coincides with the permanent closure of a recycling centre in Norfolk next week.

Investigation at Dublin Recycling Facility

Gardaí are investigating after the body of a man was found at the Greyhound Recycling Centre in Clondalkin before 1am on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The identity of the man is currently unknown. Gardaí believe the man died in suspicious circumstances, with a Garda source suggesting the case is being treated as a potential murder, as reported by The Irish Times.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Ronanstown Garda Station. The Garda Technical Bureau remains working at the scene, and the man’s body has been removed for a post-mortem examination. Greyhound Recycling stated it is “deeply saddened by the discovery of a body at our facility” and is cooperating fully with Ronanstown Garda Station, encouraging anyone with information to come forward, according to RTE.ie. An appeal for information has been issued, with Ronanstown Garda Station contactable on 01-6667700 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Norfolk Recycling Centre to Permanently Close

In unrelated news, the Norfolk County Council-run Morningthorpe Recycling Centre near Long Stratton is set to close permanently from November 1. Its last day of operation will be October 31. The closure follows the end of a 25-year lease, which the landowner confirmed could not be extended beyond February 2027. The centre is shutting a few months early to allow for the return of the land in its required condition, as detailed by EDP24.

Alternative Services and Waste Management

For local residents affected by the Morningthorpe closure, the closest alternative is the Norwich South Recycling Centre and Reuse Shop, located on Ipswich Road, off the A140/A47 roundabout. This facility is described as Norfolk’s most modern recycling centre and accepts a wider range of materials, including fridges, freezers, plasterboard, upholstered seating, tyres, and trade waste. The site has capacity for additional visitors and features a reuse shop where people can donate unwanted items or buy preloved goods. While a booking is needed to bring waste, it is not required to visit, donate to, or buy from the reuse shop.
